Writer, Tap Dancer, Music Festival Organizer, Educator
As a multidisciplinary creative, arts activist, and educator, Angelica Lasala believes in the power of the arts to spark connection, strengthen community, and create public infrastructure for joy and belonging. She moved to Berwyn in 2023 and founded Set Sail Against Hunger, a volunteer-led effort that mobilizes Chicagoland’s music and arts scenes around food security and community service. Its flagship event, Set Sail Against Hunger Music & Arts Festival, has raised the equivalent of over 40,000 meals for Cook County residents and has become a beloved staple of Berwyn’s live music landscape.
A lifelong tap dancer, Angelica has shared her passion for the art form’s rich rhythms and history with students of all ages since 2012. While earning her bachelor’s degree in English, she founded Vanderbilt University’s first student-run tap dance organization, Vandy Tap That!, and now teaches at studios across Chicagoland.
Professionally, Angelica has built a communications career with organizations including the Field Museum, WFMT, YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago, and the Carole Robertson Center for Learning. Through the Berwyn Public Art Initiative, she is excited to help create inclusive, accessible spaces where artists, musicians, and dancers of all identities can engage meaningfully with their neighbors.
